The [Christian] message is that there is hope for a ruined humanity – hope of pardon, hope of peace with God, hope of glory – because at the Father’s will Jesus became poor, and was born in a stable so that thirty years later He might hang on a cross.

It is only in proportion as the Christian manifests the fruit of a genuine conversion that he is entitled to regard himself and be regarded by others as one of the called and elect of God. It is just in proportion as we add to our faith the other Christian graces that we have solid ground on which to rest in the assurance we belong to the family of Christ. It is not those who are governed by self-will, but “as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God” (Rom. 8:14).

katiecrosby:
Very practical article on modeling and discipleship. If I could add one more characteristic to the list, it would be humility.

I am no longer anxious about anything, as I realize the Lord is able to carry out His will, and His will is mine. It makes no matter where He places me, or how. That is rather for Him to consider than for me; for in the easiest positions He must give me His grace, and in the most difficult, His grace is sufficient.

Sorrows are all, like ourselves, mortal. There are no immortal sorrows for
immortal saints. They come; but…they also go

It is of first importance that the Christian, especially the young Christian, should be clear upon the two natures in the believer. The new birth is not the improving of the old nature, but the receiving of a new; and the receiving of the new nature does not in any wise improve the old.

For they shall see God
This morning our pastor continued his series on the beatitudes. He focused specifically on verse eight, “Blessed are the pure at heart, for they shall see God.” Something he said really stuck with me about seeing God. After explaining Moses’s encounter with a reflection of God, not even seeing the face of God, he was changed. But then came Christ, who Chris described as “the overture of the incandescent glory of a million suns.” That is the God-man we get to know. The one with whom we can experience the deepest intimacy. What a privilege. And furthermore, we get to see Him in our communion with other believers. I pray I can dwell in this truth all the time and reflect on just what seeing God can mean.

Sinners are not loved because they are attractive; they are attractive because they are loved.

I wish we could sometimes love the characters in real life as we love the characters in romances. There are a great many human souls whom we should accept more kindly, and even appreciate more clearly, if we simply thought of them as people in a story.
